Planetary geologist

Hi! I’m Debarati. I’m a planetary scientist with expertise in Lunar, Martian and Meteorite geochemistry with extensive experience in terrestrial analog studies and planetary missions.

I am currently a postdoctoral researcher at The University of Winnipeg with a focus on lunar satellite and rover missions. Previously, I have been a postdoctoral research fellow at Los Alamos National Laboratory with a focus on Mars geochemistry, Curiosity rover data analysis and operations, and instrument testing and development.

I specialize in spectroscopy and love thinking about planetary evolution and how we can optimize data collection + interpretation on our friendly neighboring (or not so neighboring) planetary bodies. I also dabble in theoretical modeling of planetary processes in addition to study terrestrial analogs to understand more about extraterrestrial processes. My PhD at McGill University focused on understanding past aqueous activity in Gale crater Mars using rover data, theoretical modeling, and terrestrial analog dry lake studies at Death Valley, California.

I am a National Geographic Explorer and an ex-NASA Mars Science Laboratory team member.

I love science storytelling, art and artistic expression through dance and movement. I write about it all! I hope you enjoy the stories.
